The Candida Diet was designed to rid the intestines of excess yeast deposits, known to cause the so called Yeast Syndrome.
According to Dr. William Crook’s theory, developed back in 1983, the unpleasant Yeast Syndrome is invoked largely by our diet and its symptoms include depression, fatigue, headache, mood swings, low sex drive, sinus congestion, poor memory, cravings for sweets, etc.
Many medical professionals don’t back up the yeast theory, but many holistic professionals do support it in full and treat it as diagnosis.

- Mushrooms
- Bread
- Most dairy

Initially (during the first 2-3 weeks) it's recommended to consume no more than 60 grams of carbs a day, making this strict low-carb phase. After the first weeks, as Yeast Syndrome symptoms are said to disappear, followers are allowed to add more carbohydrates back into their diet.

The Candida Diet may win some "thumbs up" for including certain healthy foods like fresh vegetables, lean protein and sticking to a low carbohydrate intake. At the same time it is considered fairly restrictive by some and may not be easily sustainable for more than few weeks.
Although the existence of the Yeast Syndrome is being debated between medical professionals, who are still looking for scientific evidence, many people who have followed the Candida Diet report relief from many of the chronic symptoms that have been plaguing them before.
